Young Men’s Leadership Camp: The Metal Elective

In the second year of my Peace Corps service, I ran a week-long summer camp along with 3 other PC volunteers. During the day, young men aged 13-18 would attend a rotation of classes on Democracy, Service Learning, Life Skills, Health Training (from Red Cross), and of course, Outdoor Activities.

For their evenings, students had the option to choose from a bunch of “electives”: stand-alone topics that one or two Peace Corps volunteers would teach, centered around a passion or hobby that they could share. My friend David and I chose Metal. It went over so well that we did an encore session for students who missed it the first time.

While not the most polished piece I’ve ever done (rush job for sure) and admittedly cheesy, I still really enjoy the Metal Timeline I created for that elective:
